Tan Holdings, Shirley’s blank foes

Tan Holdings Football Club and Shirley’s FC shut down their respective opponents to keep the Top 2 spots in the 2015 Dove Women’s Football League.

Shirley’s retained the lead in the seven-team league and improved to a flawless 11-0-0 win-draw-loss record following an 8-0 demolition of Kanoa FC last Saturday in the second game at the Oleai Sports Complex Field. In the final game, Tan Holdings also shut down Matansa, 5-0, to remain in second place with its 7-3-1 slate.

Mia Carreon lifted Shirley’s to the lopsided win after scoring five goals. She hit back-to-back in the opening minutes of the first half and nailed two of the team’s last three in that period for a big 6-0 halftime lead. Negahr Rastguiy and Alexa Vergara posted the two other goals for Shirley’s in the first half, while Carreon got one more in the second after Diana Maniacop gave the team its seventh goal in the 55th minute.

In the Tan Holdings-Matansa tussle, it was a Chloe Salvosa show, as the striker registered four straight goals. She knocked in her first in the opening frame and made the last three in the second. Jennifer Perena closed out for Tan Holdings with her goal five minutes before the match wrapped up.

Meanwhile, Independent FC won the first game in last Saturday’s triple-header after Paire failed to field enough players in the curtain-raiser. IFC now has a 3-0-8 record for fifth place in the team standings behind Shirley’s, Tan Holdings, idle MPU (5-1-3) and Kanoa (4-3-4) and ahead of Matansa (1-2-7), and Paire (1-0-8).

M-LEAGUE
Tan Holdings 4, KFAS 1
Tan Holdings also solidified its hold to the top spot in Division 1 of the M-League after beating Korean Football Association of Saipan.

Sean Perez and Martin Jambor delivered two goals apiece for Tan Holdings, which owns an 8-0-1 record, two wins ahead of the second-running Wild Bill’s (6-0-2). Jambor drew first blood for Tan Holdings with his goal in the second minute and it took a while for his team to find the back of the net again, as Perez scored in the 46th. Perez made it two in a row with his goal in the 71st, while Jambor duplicated that feat after getting his second five minutes before the match finished.

KFAS avoided a shutout when Min Ki Kim ended the drought in the 86th.

Inter Godfather’s 1, Paire 1
In the other Division 1 match, Inter Godfather’s forced a draw against Paire, thanks to Bruce Berline’s goal in the 76th minute.

Inter Godfather’s needed a lift from Berline after Paire took a 1-0 lead early in the second half off Yogesh Singh’s goal in the 48th minute. Both Paire and Inter Godfather’s are stuck to two wins with the latter slightly ahead in the team standings at fourth place with its two draws and four losses against the former’s one draw and five defeats.

Thundercats 2, Shirley’s 1
In Division 2, the Thundercats moved up to third place after slipping past Shirley’s.

Timothy Tawanpiy scored the winning goal for the Thundercats (4-3-3) in the 77th minute. Yong Jun Jeon tallied the other goal for the Thundercats, hitting his target in the fourth minute or three minutes after Muneaki Arai put Shirley’s (4-3-4) on the board.

Matansa 6, WNT 1
In the other Division 2 pairing, Matansa gained some cushion against the second-running Kanoa after routing the CNMI Women’s National Team.

Matansa, which now has a 6-2-1 slate against Kanoa’s 5-1-3, drew two goals each from Titu Ahmed and Jeong Wook Hwang and one apiece from Jonathan Nogis and Tej Gurung. Jeralyn Castillo gave WNT (0-0-9) its lone goal.
