Lowly teams try to catch up with leaders
The Barcode Hobbies Deadshot and the Jokers Wonderpool Aces defeated their respective opponents in their bid to keep up with the leaders in the ongoing Budweiser-Saipan Billiards Association Open 8-Ball Thursday League.
The Deadshot and the Wonderpool Aces, both of which are at the lower half of the standings, scored separate 10-5 wins over the cellar-dwelling Barcode Breakers (51-114), the former’s sister team, and the Abyss Rack ‘N’ Roll (87-78).
The Deadshot are at seventh with an 82-83 slate, while the Wonderpool Aces are a game behind at 81-84. Both are more than 10 wins behind the league-leading Route 33 Alamo Car Rental’s 97-68 slate.
Route 33 dropped its match against the Smoke Pub Magic 8-Ball (85-80), 9-6, but remain on top of the standings. Wild Bill’s, tied with the Abyss Titans at second (91-74), also suffered a 9-6 setback at the hands of Jonny’s Team SCS (70-95).
The Titans nipped the Jokers Homeboyz (90-75), 8-7, in the other Thursday League match.
In the Tuesday League, title contenders Smoke Pub Armatech Hustlers and Jokers IT&E Voyagers suffered contrasting fortunes.
The Hustlers were beaten by the Smoke Pub Ali’i Destroyers, 9-6, but still hold a 97-68 slate against the 93-72 card of the Voyagers, a 12-3 winner over the Abyss Homeboyz II.
The Jokers Str8 Shooters edged the Abyss Crazy 8, 8-7, in the day’s final match.
Games were already played last Tuesday and Thursday, but results were not yet available as of press time.
