NMC Adult School graduates 12 on Tinian
Twelve students from the Northern Marianas College’s Adult School program, which is under the Adult Basic Education program, received their high school diplomas during a ceremony held recently at the NMC Tinian Instructional Site.
Graduates Juanita Aldan Mendiola received the Highest Grade Point Average Award followed by Steven Sablan Mendiola and Elisa Pangelinan Aquiningoc.
“This program gave us a second chance to achieve our goals in life,” said the three graduates in their video message that was played during the ceremony. “In today’s world, one cannot find work without a high school diploma.”
NMC officials in attendance included NMC president Sharon Y. Hart, ABE state director/GED administrator Lorraine T. Cabrera, and special guest speaker, dean/director of Community Programs and Service Ross Manglona.
“We would like to encourage the community to take advantage of this program to improve their quality of life,” said Cabrera.
Last December, the ABE program graduated 22 students from the Adult School program on Tinian. A new cohort for the Tinian Family Literacy program, which offers the Adult School diploma, will begin on July 23 and will continue until Dec. 7, 2012.
