Dela Cruz blasted an inside-the-park round-tripper, a two-run shot, that was part of the Lady Dolphins’ six-run third inning barrage. Her four-bagger also drove in Niannalyn Iguel.

The MHS left fielder had three RBIs, including an RBI triple in the bottom of the first, in a 2-for-3 plate appearance. Lizama and Sabrina Pangelinan went 2-for-2 with the latter scoring twice and had one RBI while the latter had a double and a triple.

Pangelinan pitched a complete game for the defending champions allowing one earned run on six hits with two strikeouts and six walks

MHS capitalized on MCS’ 17 errors as the Lady Knights’ fielders were slow to react with their relay throws.

MCS, staring at a 13-3 deficit and needing to score in the top of the fifth to continue the game, made three runs.

Luisa Camacho had a leadoff single, Masami Sato grounded out to first for the first out while advancing the former to second. Camacho stole home for the Lady Knights’ first run in the fifth.

Grace Seo was hit by pitch but Jennifer Villagomez was out on a 4-3 putout play. Seo, who stole third, reached home plate on a Jan Travilla single.

MCS pitcher Amalina Evangelista drove in Travilla with a double and she stole third to move into scoring position,

Evangelista, with two outs, was left stranded on base after Lizama forced Komi Romolor to an infield fly that was caught by Jodeen Fredrick at third base.

The reigning champions are hoping to win a third straight softball title. They defeated Saipan Southern High School Lady Manta Rays, 9-7, last year to complete their back-to-back title bid.

Action continues at 4pm today with the Lady Knights taking on the Kagman High School Lady Ayuyus.
