The Asia-Pacific-Middle East Regional Tournament organizing committee has set May 16 for the CNMI Little League Baseball Federation fundraising golf tournament to be held at the Mariana Country Club.

The golf tournament is a fundraiser to augment the cost of Saipan’s hosting of the Junior, Senior, and Big League regional tournaments that will be held from June 26 to July 5.

The show time for the single Peoria tournament is at 6am and shotgun starts at 7am. The registration fee is $100 with trophies and other prizes to be given away in the banquet after the tournament,

The organizers chose the single Peoria format since they already have software to compute the final scores once the golfers turn in their scorecards.

Former Saipan Micronesian Games Organizing Committee chair Rex Palacios is helping organize the golf tournament.

The committee is also accepting sponsorship from various businesses and companies where they can put up their banners during the event. The committee is also looking for volunteers to help them run the golf event.

The committee is in the process of printing the tickets and will start selling them this month. The number of participants is limited only to 144.

Organizers renewed their call to all local golf club presidents and members to join and support their fundraising event.

The Legislature has already appropriated $50,000 for the Commonwealth’s hosting of the regional tournament, while additional funds would come from the fees that would be collected from all participating teams.
