22 schools to join All Schools championship
Twenty-two schools—spread out in the elementary, middle and junior high, and high school—will be participating in the qualifying round of the 12th Annual Public School System/McDonald’s All Schools Athletic Championship set next week.
A coaches meeting will be held at 4pm today at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room to further discuss the details of the qualifying meet, which will be alternately held at the Oleai Sports Complex and Hopwood Junior High School grounds.
Fifteen elementary schools signed up, nine will be competing in the middle and junior high divisions, while eight joined in the high school category.
Agape Christian School and Saipan International School have entered all three, while Saipan Community School has no high school and is entered in the elementary and middle and junior high levels. Whispering Palms will be contending for the elementary, and middle and junior high honors.
Dandan, Gregorio T, Camacho, William S. Reyes, Oleai, Kagman, San Antonio, Brilliant Star, Koblerville, San Vicente, Tanapag, and Garapan are the competing elementary schools.
Hopwood, Chacha, Tinian, Marianas Baptist Academy, and Mt. Carmel School will be joining SCS, SIS, and ACS in the middle school and junior high school division.
Marianas, Kagman, Saipan Southern, and Tinian are the other high schools that will go up against SIS, MBA, ACS and Mt. Carmel.
The qualifier starts on Monday, April 20, from 4pm to 6:30pm in the elementary division with students from SCS, Dandan, GTC, WSR, ACS, Whispering Palms, and Oleai competing in the 60-meter and 100m runs, long jump, and softball throw at the Oleai Sports Complex.
Action shifts to Hopwood in the same division the next day, April 21, with Kagman, San Antonio, Brilliant Star, Koblerville, SIS, San Vicente, Tanapag, and Garapan contending for qualifying spots in the 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m running events.
The elementary schools of Kagman, San Antonio, Brilliant Star, Koblerville, SIS, San Vicente, Tanapag, and Garapan return to Oleai on April 22 for the qualifying round in the 60-meter and 100m runs, long jump, and softball throw.
The final day for elementary school—12-and-under—qualifiers is on April 23 SCS, Dandan, GTC, WSR, ACS, Whispering Palms, and Oleai vying for spots in the 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1,500m running events.
April 27 (Oleai Sports Complex) and 28 (Hopwood) are reserved for the Under-18 students—Middle School, Junior High, and High School—with the 60m, 100m, shotput, discuss and javelin throw, and long jump set on the first day, while the 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1,500m running events the following day.
All schools automatically qualify in the relay events with the finals is set on May 14 (Oleai), 15, and 16 (Hopwood).
