Parents of high school seniors and juniors are invited to participate in an information session tomorrow, Saturday, April 18, 2015, to learn about the Summer Academy organized by College Access Challenge Grant Program at the Northern Marianas College.

The Summer Academy affords high school students an opportunity to gain meaningful college experience while they are earning transferable college credits. The Academy familiarizes students with college life while they are still in high school and can be an excellent way to help students prepare for their eventual transition to college after graduation.

In addition to college level work, participants of the Summer Academy will also receive college advising, academic tutoring, and college-preparatory and life skills training.

The program is funded by the College Access Challenge Grant, which aims to increase the number of underserved and minority students who are enrolling in college. To do this, the CACG provides a scholarship award to eligible students to cover the cost of their courses.

The info session for parents will be from 9am to 12pm in Room D1 at the NMC campus. Parents of high school seniors and juniors are highly encouraged to participate and to meet with representatives of the CACG program to learn more about the Summer Academy.

The agenda for the sessions will include a discussion of the Summer Academy Experience, the early admissions process, financial aid opportunities, and other important topics.

The Summer Academy for students will run from June 29, 2015, through Aug. 7, 2015. Although classes for the Summer Academy will be held at NMC’s As Terlaje campus, some activities will be located off-campus and will be announced in advance. Eligibility for participation in the Summer Academy considers income and English placement level.
