Senate confirms five Inos’ appointees

The Senate has confirmed the nominations of three members of the Commonwealth Ports Authority board, as well as the nominations of the heads of the Department of Public Works and Department of Corrections.

At a session on Friday, Pete P. Reyes, Jose R. Lifoifoi, and Roman T. Tudela were confirmed as CPA board members.

DOC Commissioner Robert Guerrero was also confirmed by unanimous vote.

The confirmation of DPW Secretary James Ada took longer, after half of the senators remained silent during the roll call for the “yes” or “no” vote.

Senate President Victor B. Hocog (Ind-Rota) said he immediately called for a short recess to meet with the senators and Ada.

Hocog said the lawmakers asked Ada a few questions before resuming to give their “yes” vote.

Reyes earlier said he will “seek to empower” the CPA if he gets the Senate’s nod.

He said the authority of the CPA is “unclear” when it comes to negotiating or talking with airline companies that might be interested in having flights to the CNMI.

Ada, meanwhile, said he will prioritize ongoing DPW projects, despite budget concerns on his department.
