Hotel occupancy rate at 84 percent in March

The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands reported 83.75 percent occupancy among 11 member hotels for March 2015, a 3-percent decrease compared to March 2014.

A total of 59,821 of 71,424 available room nights were sold in March 2015, compared to 62,066 of 71,455 of available room nights sold over the same period last year. Room rates were $124.42 during the month, compared to $116.57 last March.

“As HANMI marks its 30th anniversary this year, we’re pleased to be a community partner in building a better Commonwealth with our tax and employment contributions,” said HANMI chair Gloria Cavanagh. “In celebration, we invite everyone to come out and for our HANMI Go-Kart Championship and carnival on Saturday, April 11, at Mariana Resort & Spa.”

So far this calendar year, hotel occupancy is at an average 89.15 percent, 3 percent lower than last year. However, our average room rates have increased by 6.7 percent based on last year’s figures.
