The United Filipino Organization’s 10th Inter-Organizational Basketball League will unfurl tomorrow morning beginning with the Docomo Pacific Cup for youth players at the Civic Center Basketball Court in Susupe.
UFO president Bong Malasarte said the competition is set at 9am with participating teams parading with their muses in a simple opening ceremony.
The youth division will have two age groups-the 15-20 and the 14-and-under divisions. Seeing action in the former are MDX/Mariana Resort & Spa, SIP/Flor Miranda, Bayani /DYS Jr National A, Visminda/AON Jr National B, DeMolay/Gene’s Barber, and Power/Hi Five.
The 14-and-under division, meanwhile, will have MDX/Armatech, SMF/DYS, Boholanos/Hi Five, and Bayani/San Vicente Team.
Malasarte said only one game each in the 15-20 and 14-and-under age groups will be played on Sunday to make way for the opening of the 17-and-under Micronesian Basketball Tournament at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The UFO caging then resumes at 3pm, also on Sunday, with the masters division or Budweiser Cup for 39-and-over players.
Six teams will vie for supremacy in the masters, namely MDX/Armatech, Bayani /Benjie Abadilla, Samahang Laguna /Jerry, UPAA/Hector, Batangas Blades/ Fongs Bakery, and Civic Boys/Treskellion.
MDX/Armatech is the defending champion in the masters. The team beat 2010 champion Cabalen/Wings Travel, 84-79, in the finals last year. Meanwhile, in the 15 to 20 division, the Jets defeated Filcag in the finals, 86-80, in 2011. The 14-and-under, meanwhile, will be making its inaugural season.
Malasarte said this year’s UFO games will be played every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. For more information, contact Bong Malasarte at 287-5525, Ed Manalili at 483-4337, Boy Ching at 287-6046, or Abner Venus at 888-7764.
