Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (Ind-MP) has submitted a budget request for fiscal year 2016 for Commonwealth projects.

In a report, Sablan said the funding request is for 220 projects that are “important to the people of the NMI.”

The funding request was sent to the U.S. Congress’ Appropriations Committee last week.

“We also submitted 15 recommendations for legislative language to be included in the fiscal year 2016 spending laws, ranging from instructions that could lead to completion of the Kagman watershed project to requirements that will help justify increasing reimbursement rates for school meals served in the Northern Marianas,” Sablan said.

The delegate did not give the total budget request, but provided a list to show the funding for the CNMI during previous years.

Some of the previous projects with biggest funding in the CNMI include child nutrition program ($11.8 million granted in 2014), supplemental assistance program ($12.2 million in 2015), watershed protection and flood prevention projects ($4.15 million in 2010), economic development administration ($1.58 million in 2014), national criminal history improvement program ($1.2 million total), and basic field grants ($1.16 million in 2014), among others.

Sablan said the CNMI is also “eligible” to receive grants, but funds under this classification may not have applied.
