DEQ sets Tank Beach cleanup tomorrow

The Division of Environmental Quality’s cleanup brigade will be picking up trash at Tank Beach in Kagman tomorrow, Feb. 4, at 8am. If you would like to volunteer, meet with brigade members at the Tank Beach parking lot. Volunteers will split into groups and clean until 10am and break for drinks and then continue, if needed.

This month, outstanding brigade volunteers who participated in at least 10 monthly cleanups will receive a brigade cap and those who participated in at least three cleanups will receive a green brigade t-shirt. For more information about volunteering, contact the DEQ office at 664-8500/1. (DEQ)

CPA amends procurement rules and regs

The Commonwealth Ports Authority is notifying the public that the CPA has promulgated amendments to its Procurement Rules and Regulations. The revised regulations established a Procurement Section; addressed the handling of abandoned property and salvaged property; addressed procurement during an emergency and calamity; updated the provisions regarding requests and proposals; clarified provisions relating to invitations for bids, clarified provisions relating to public records and the manner of their disclosure inclusive of the Open Government Act; and other minor and technical revisions. Public cautioned when driving thru Isa Drive

The Department of Public Works is informing the public that there is a major construction activity at the Kagman intersection along Cross Island Road, also known as Isa Drive. The public is asked to observe the 15 mph speed limit and take precautionary measures when driving through the construction zone. (DPW)

Saipan beach site red-flagged

The Division of Environment Quality has red-flagged the DPW Channel Bridge Beach and is advising the public not to fish or swim within 300 feet of this location for the next 48 hours or until otherwise notified. DEQ said that samples collected from this location had excessive concentrations of fecal indicator bacteria (enterococci) that exceeded the CNMI Marine Water Quality Standards. These bacteria can indicate the presence of human and animal waste in the water. Water samples were taken from 12 locations on Saipan this week. For more information, contact DEQ at 664-8500. (DEQ)
