The Settlement Fund’s trustee has already selected two lawyers to serve as administrative hearing officers but the search for qualified arbitrator is ongoing.

As of yesterday, Settlement Fund trustee Joyce C. H. Tang has yet to give the U.S. District Court for the NMI any update on the search for a qualified arbitrator.

In her recent report about the Settlement Fund’s operations, Tang revealed that attorneys Maya Kara and Josh Berger have been selected as administrative hearing officers.

Tang also early this week made minor edits to the Appeal Rules and Procedures for administrative proceedings for the court’s consideration.

The court has to approve the rules before administrative proceedings can commence.

U.S. District Court for the NMI designated judge Frances Tydingco-Gatewood said at a recent hearing that she would talk with U. S. Magistrate Judge of the District of Guam Joaquin V. E. Manibusan Jr. and U.S. District Court Senior Judge Alex R. Munson to serve as arbitrators.

Tydingco-Gatewood said having either Manibusan or Munson as arbitrators will save the Settlement Fund money as the two judges will not be paid.

Tydingco-Gatewood expressed strong belief that Manibusan and Munson are willing to serve as arbitrators to help the Settlement Fund.
