SDA hold in-school spelling and science competitions

Seventh Day Adventist School students dazzled with their spelling and science skills during school competitions last week.

Faith Hoyt, SDA public relations assistant, said the school classrooms were transformed into a science fair expo last Thursday. Students from every class displayed their experiments to a panel of judges.

“Our teachers are proud of the hard work our students put into their science experiments,” she said.

After the fair, SDA held a down-to-the wire spelling bee competition, principal Michael Burgland said.

“A big thanks goes out to all the students who participated in the science fair. …All of our participants made a great showing,” the principal said.

In Kindergarten from first to third places, science fair winners were Juan Banacia, Wayne Ano, and Kelly Selkor. For first grade, they were Dennis Ahn, Chloe Berglund, and Kyle Diesta.

For second grade, Jason Kim, Gwanpil Son, and Seiya Takizawa won first to third place, respectively. For third grade Victoria Duhon, Charles Cepeda, Sagar Khadka and Sarawut Sukanpong came in first, second, and third place, respectively.

In the fourth grade, Marielle Lopez and Ryan Koon placed first, JinA Choi placed second, and Jun Wang placed third. In the fifth and sixth grade, Roy Yoon came in number one, Seong Eon Heo won second place, and Johfy Dela Cruz placed third.

Seventh and eighth grade finishers from first to third places were Vincent John Reyes, Emma Timmons, and Cheyanne Manuel.

For SDA’s spelling bee, kindergarteners Gwanhun Son, Banacia, and Pete Phair place first to third place, respectively. In the first grade, Kyle Diesta, Mika Camacho, and Dennis Ahan placed first, second, and third place respectively.

In the second grade, Gwanpil Son came in first, Dustin Hyun, second, and Jason Kim third. In the third and fourth grade, Sunny Hyun got first place, Sion Park got second, and Victoria Duhon earned third place.

In the fifth and sixth grade, Keiph Manual, Shaquille Calub, and Roy Yoon, came in first, second, and third place, respectively. In seventh and eighth grade, Russel Yoon won first place, Erin Yoon won second, and En Ming Cacdac earned third place.
