Neocatechumenal Way!
Took an exit to research and critically analyze materials relating to the “Neocatechumenal Way” or movement founded in Madrid, Spain, by a Kiko Arguello.
Navigated it carefully when I happened upon the views about the group by the late Fr. Enrico Zoffolli, professor of philosophy in Rome. In his sunset years he published the Dictionary of Christianity.
Initially, Neocatechumenal did well until it started going into “doctrinal presuppositions” of the Way. As time progressed, many of the followers were “severely shocked by the distressing experience of some ways of thinking and of acting observed in the Movement which are incompatible with the convictions owed to the Christian education inherited by the family and received in the parish church.
“The overwhelming majority of the Neocatechumenals do not seem to be aware of these errors and draw from the Way only the good purged of the dross of evident and serious dogmatic aberrations,” wrote the late Fr. Zoffolli.
“This, however, does not remove the obligation to inform the public at large in order to prevent a further spread of the heresy and of a mentality, which insensibly induces simple and ignorant people to accept it.
“We have been able to identify these in the above-mentioned typewritten texts reserved for the Catechists and kept secret not only from the public but also from the faithful committed to the Way.
‘They concern ideas which cannot be shared by many Neocatechumenals and seem above all to be ignored especially by those who, devoid of theology, are not in a position to judge their orthodoxy with the necessary competence.”
From the Catholic News Agency after news items claim that the Neocatechumenal Way has received approval for their Celebration of the Mass. The Vatican clarifies.
The Vatican’s approval of the Neo-Catechumenal Way’s forms of “celebration” only applies to non-liturgical prayers within their catechesis and not to the Mass or other liturgies of the Church.
“With respect to the celebrations of the Holy Mass and the other liturgies of the Church,” communities of the Catechumenal Way must “follow the norms of the Church as indicated in the liturgical books; to do otherwise must be understood to be a liturgical abuse,” a Vatican official told CAN on Jan. 21 of 2013.
Rome has told the group twice to cease and desist from its doctrinal presuppositions. It defied the order moving ahead as though a new religion within Catholicism.
Archbishop Antonio Apuron is part of the Neocatechumenal group in Guam. He’s remained intransigent to legitimate queries raised by the laity on a number of serious issues. They only want the truth! Silence isn’t golden in this case. In fact, it has created a vacuum of alienation, lack of leadership and unsolicited acrimony in incommunicado between shepherd and flock.
Apuron isn’t the Catholic Church but head of the largest religious denomination. He needs to muster the courage to unite his flock as he sails into the sunset of his career. Catholicism has had a rich history of over 500 years of religious practices here, now placed in unjustified gradual ruination by the Neocatechumenal group. How about credentials that you’re a theological, philosophical or biblical scholar with ranking like historical giants Plato, Aristotle, and Aquinas?
Did you ever publish a book that presents the “unity and purpose” of the Bible in terms of “God’s universal sovereignty” and His plan for salvation? Or is your message limited to “presupposition” which simply means a “guess,” promoting self-concocted and misguided literary garb? This has got to stop in both Guam and the NMI!
