Three men armed with a crowbar, a hammer, and a long rebar attacked a man in front of his horrified wife, a former police officer, and their three young children inside their house in As Lito on May 5.

Police said the victim, Tommy Tamangmad, sustained injuries in the forearms, legs, abdomen, and back.

Two of the suspects, identified as Joseph Gimed, 55, and his son Alvin Sangmow, 33, were arrested Monday afternoon in Koblerville. The third suspect remains unidentified.

Gimed and Sangmow were taken to the Superior Court yesterday for a bail hearing on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, criminal trespass, and disturbing the peace. Their bail was set at $6,500 cash each.

Police detective Catherine Pangelinan stated in her report that two police officers responded to a disturbance at the residence of former police officer Melinda Villanueva in As Lito on May 5 at 9:30pm.

Pangelinan said the officers met with Villanueva, who had called the police, and her husband Tamangmad. The officers learned that the couple and their three children were inside the living room and about to sleep when three men entered the house and attacked Tamangmad.

Tamangmad told the officer that he was drinking with other people earlier that evening at a house in Dandan. When he had enough, he walked from Dandan down to his house in As Lito.

Not long after reaching his house, the three suspects came to the front door. He identified the two suspects as Gimed and Sangmow, who were with him during the drinking session in Dandan. The three suspects, armed with a hammer, a crowbar and a long rebar, began hitting him in different areas of his body. Tamangmad ran to the back of the house to avoid further attack.

In her statement to police, Villanueva said they were getting ready to sleep at 9:30pm when she heard a car with a loud muffler drive fast to the front of the house. The suspects were yelling out that they’re going to kill Tamangmad.

When Tamangmad opened the door, the three suspects began attacking him. With the children crying and shouting, Villanueva yelled at the suspects to stop and leave the house.

When Tamangmad managed to push the suspects out of the front door, Villanueva carried her baby and told her two other children to run and follow her out of the house. She then stopped passersby and used their cell phone to call 911.
