OAG launches 31st Attorney General’s Cup
The Office of the Attorney General is pleased to announce that the 31st Annual Attorney General’s Cup Speech Competition will be held on April 30, 2015, at 10am at the CNMI Supreme Court courtroom.
“The AG’s Cup provides our high school students with the opportunity to research an issue that affects the Commonwealth, form a position on the issue, and showcase their voice and passion for his or her position on the topic,” said Attorney General Edward Manibusan.
This year, eight high schools will be participating: Marianas High School, Saipan Southern High School, Kagman High School, Mt. Carmel School, Grace Christian Academy, Marianas Baptist Academy, Dr. Rita H. Inos High School, and Tinian High School. This year’s topic focuses on same-sex marriages in the CNMI, which is a current legal issue before the U.S. Supreme Court. The issue presented is: Should the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands allow marriages between two people of the same sex? Why or why not?
“This is a timely issue for civil discourse and discussion,” said Manibusan. “I encourage all students in high schools to weigh in on this issue by competing in the 2015 Attorney General’s Cup.”
The Office of the Attorney General welcomes the public to attend the speech competition and support the students of the CNMI. (OAG)
