Talavera, Camacho top March roll-offs
Robert Talavera bagged his first monthly crown this season after ruling the Saipan Bowling Association’s Budweiser King of the Lanes Tournament for March, while Diana Camacho notched her second tiara.

Talavera, who placed in the Top 3 in the first two tournaments of the year behind January and February winner Raymond Angeles, showed up in the final day of the March roll-offs last Monday and registered a field-best 797 pitfalls.
The veteran bowler had a sluggish start knocking down only 155 pins, but finished strong, recording 214, 191, and 237 pinfalls to average about 200 (199.25). Talavera foiled Raymond Angeles’ bid for a third straight victory, as the former’s Day 2 total of 763 pinfalls (196, 176, 188, and 203) was only good for third place behind Talavera and Day 1 leader Raul Dumapit.
Dumapit took the early lead in the two-day competition after logging 770 pinfalls (201, 191, 176, and 202) last Saturday. Angeles also joined the opening day of the monthly tournament and was in second place with his 720 (170, 193, 175, and 192). Bowlers are allowed to compete on both days, but only the higher score is counted.
Eighteen others joined the March roll-offs with reigning King of the Lanes Simon Manacop (752) and Lito Teodoro (732) placing in the Top 5. Completing the list were Jorge Soledad (708), Ador Dimaano (687), Tony Verdaguer (686), Tito Corpuz (671), Jae Yong Kim (664), Raphael Zapanta (663), Paul Pangelinan (649), Percy Omechelang (648), Ronald Batac (636), Ramir De Leon (625), Jerry Kaneshi (621), Edward Baluyan (586), Yong Woon Lee (559), Tony Yarobwemal (525), Ruselle Zapanta (490), and Fred Gonzales (414).
In the Queen of the Lanes, Diana Camacho bested 12 other keglers to make it two in a row.
The February champion played only in Day 1 and her 738 (178, 153, 237, and 170) was unbeaten in Day 2 of the monthly roll-offs, as eventual third place finisher Kathy Mersai earned only 691 pinfalls last Monday. Camacho was the lone bowler to hit 700-plus pinfalls, as runner-up Yho Villavicencio recorded only 697 in the opening day.
Carrie Camacho (650), Gloria Omechelang (641), Tess Fabie (619), Linda Yarobwemal (603), Lala Taitano (601), Ron Cal (600), Myrna Santos (598), Gigi Zapanta (595), Elena Soll (579), and Janice Camacho (560) rounded out the field.
