Air Force guest speaker inspires Aero-Dolphins
The Aeronautical Dolphins, aka the “Aero-Dolphins,” had another inspiring guest speaker, Senior Airman Richard Kautz of the U.S. Air Force Wednesday last week.
Kautz, a member of Mount Carmel High School’s Class of 2008, was only 18 years old when he enlisted as a mechanic with no military experience whatsoever. He immediately left for Lackland Air Force Base in Texas to attend Basic Military Training right after high school graduation.
He is a KC-135 Crew Chief for four years now and has traveled all over the world, from Kansas, Oklahoma, and Florida, to Spain and all over Europe. He has been contracted to serve for six years and although he is almost done with his contract, he says that he loves being a crew chief so much that he will continue doing it for the rest of his military career.
Aero-Dolphins instructor and founder John Raulerson was in fact a KC-135 Crew Chief before he retired and worked in civilian jobs. He and Kautz shared the same experiences and obstacles that they had to go through to accomplish their goals.
Both of them emphasized with the Aero-Dolphins the importance of education and the variety of rare opportunities given to students at Marianas High School. Kautz stressed how the U.S. Air Force gives many opportunities that are only given once in a blue moon so one must grab the opportunity or else “rue the day you made such a stupid decision for the rest of your life.” He made the Aero-Dolphins understand how much one decision could affect the rest of one’s life.
