The Marianas Visitors Authority invites all families raising funds for off-island medical referral to avail of its Beautify My Marianas program, which offers $100 for each 1-mile cleanup in assigned areas.

AROMA, a family group raising funds for medical referral, collected 320 lbs of trash in March 2015, when they cleaned from Garapan Fishing Base to hotel street, including secondary roads, as part of the Marianas Visitors Authority’s Beautify My Marianas program. (MVA)

“We’re pleased to announce that Beautify My Marianas is open to most groups, including families seeking to raise funds for medical referral, school clubs, sports organizations, or other community groups,” said MVA managing director Perry Tenorio. “We talk about how tourism is everybody’s business; Beautify My Marianas is one way residents can raise funds by directly supporting tourism by helping to keep our islands clean.”

As of February 2015, 17 community groups have participated in the program this fiscal year, collecting over 10,000 lbs of trash.

“Beautify My Marianas is just one of many destination enhancement projects of the MVA being funded through Public Law 18-1 and the hotel occupancy tax paid by hotels,” said Tenorio. “The MVA thanks all those community groups on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota that have partnered with us in this effort, and we will continue the program as long as the need exists and funding remains available.”
