The Commonwealth Ports Authority board has approved a request of CTSI Logistics to transfer its airport lease assignment to an affiliate, POI Aviation.

Executive director Edward Deleon Guerrero said the request is a result of the increased responsibility of POI Aviation, which intends to serve Saipan Air once the airline is launched in July.

Saipan Air will be the first national carrier of the CNMI, offering direct flights to Japan and China, and soon to Taiwan, Russia, and Korea. It is expected to boost arrivals by 22 percent in 2012 and by 97 percent in 2015.

All three companies are owned by Tan Holdings.

Saipan Tribune learned that the lease assignment involves a property that houses an office and warehouse close to the commuter terminal and measures about 20,000 square feet.

“Since the property is being leased by CTSI, all they’re doing is transferring it from one to the other [POI] so that they can do more development up there and do the functions that they need to do, the additional responsibilities that they have,” explained Deleon Guerrero.
