NMC to offer certificate program in casino management
To meet workforce needs that are associated with the planned casino development in the CNMI, the Northern Marianas College is quickly taking steps toward introducing a new academic program in casino management.
According to the college, its Business Department is working with the College of Southern Nevada through a partnership made possible by the Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education to launch its first Certificate of Achievement in Casino Management.
“This is just one of the many ways that the college is working to meet local workforce needs,” said NMC president Dr. Sharon Hart. “We plan to roll out other programs soon to expand training opportunities for residents.”
“Students who earn credits through this certificate program can transfer their credits to other accredited institutions that already offer an associate degree in casino management, including the College of South Nevada,” said Chavel Green, NMC Business Department chairperson. “Of course, college transfer credits are determined by the receiving institution.”
“We are also excited at the possibility of having one of the faculty, with the approval from the department chair from the College of Southern Nevada, visit the island and offer his over 10 years of expertise in casino and gaming,” Green added.
The college, with key personnel on Tinian and Rota, will carry out a needs assessment regarding ways that it can work together to leverage resources; provide courses online, onsite (Saipan), and credit and non-credit courses/training.
