Rota again cited as StormReady, TsunamiReady

National Weather Service officials have informed Rota Mayor Efraim M. Atalig that as of March 11, 2015, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has once again recognized Rota as both StormReady and TsunamiReady. Rota was first recognized as attaining the demanding requirements of the two programs on March 11, 2009.

The TsunamiReady and StormReady programs allow communities to critically assess their ability to deal with the threats of tsunamis, typhoons, and other forms of severe weather and ocean hazards. Rota exceeded the long list of program requirements it had to meet. The island leadership demonstrated that it can respond to all of the natural hazards in a timely and systematic manner, and can adequately ensure the safety of its citizens and visitors.

Rota joins Guam, Saipan, Tinian, and Andersen Air Force Base as locations in the Mariana Islands that have joined the elite list of 2,298 locations recognized as StormReady and 183 recognized as TsunamiReady. (NWS)
