Kagman road groundbreaking on Thurs.
Kagman III residents’ longstanding problem with its dilapidated roads will soon end as the Department of Public Works will finally break ground on new road construction this Thursday, according to Rep. Lorenzo Deleon Guerrero (Ind-Saipan).
After decades of problems with potholes that damage cars, several roads in the village will finally be fixed, courtesy of DPW and Hawaiian Rock Products.
The groundbreaking will be held this Thursday at 9am in Chopak Drive. The project’s cost is estimated at $506,446.94 for four locations.
According to Deleon Guerrero, the groundbreaking was supposed to take place last Friday but it was rescheduled for Thursday.
Of the four roads targeted for construction, Chopak Drive is the first to see actual work after Thursday’s groundbreaking.
The paving project includes three areas in Kagman III—Chopak Drive, Pine Drive, and Mangga Street—and Katbon Road in San Vicente.
Hawaiian Rock CNMI manager Ponce Eorotan said that after groundbreaking, the company would need about another week for mobilization of the project.
Eorotan said they are trying to finish the road markings before any work could be done.
“Maybe after one week, the following week we’ll send some guys to start. We will do first the clearing, then we will do the grading and backfilling of the base, and if it is all finished we will do the asphalt paving,” he said.
Hawaiian Rock was given the go-signal to proceed with the project after it received its permit last Feb. 3.
Deleon Guerrero earlier said he will make himself available to be a part of the project team to ensure construction efficiency pursuant to U.S. construction standards.
