A 47-year-old man was arrested for allegedly beating up a man for no apparent reason in front of a poker arcade in western Garapan Friday afternoon.

The victim, Nahidul Islam, was bleeding from his nose, his left eyebrow had a cut, and his lips were swollen when a police officer responded to the scene. Islam also complained of pain in his hips and back from the fall and kicks, police said.

The suspect, Techuo Ichiuo Yleisar, 47, was arrested that same afternoon for assault and battery and disturbing the peace.

His bail was set yesterday at $2,000 cash. Preliminary hearing will be on March 17 at 1:30pm.

Police detective Dee Liza S. Udui stated in her report that two police officers were dispatched to 777 Poker in western Garapan on Friday at 3:42pm in response to a report of a disturbance.

Udui said the officers met Islam, who was standing along Paseo de Marianas and pointing in the direction of where the suspect ran off.

One police officer spotted Yleisar sitting on the stairs to the second floor of a restaurant located behind Kings Club in western Garapan.

Yleisar told the officer that Islam borrowed money from him and that Islam refused to talk to him, denying that he owed him money.

The suspect said Islam was lying about not having any money because he saw him playing poker. Yleisar said he got upset so he punched Islam, then ran away after seeing police officers.

Islam told police, though, that it was his first time to meet Yleisar. He said the suspect punched and kicked him about 19 times all over his body for no apparent reason. The alleged incident happened in front of U-Luck Poker and 777 Poker in western Garapan.

Islam said Yleisar kept cursing him and only stopped beating him when he noticed a lot of people looking on.

Islam added that he lost $572 in cash during the beating and that his sunglasses worth $275 were damaged.

Medics were called to the location to treat Islam’s wounds.
