AGANA, GUAM—Ronald Cannoles, executive vice president and West Pacific region manager, announced that he will retire from Bank of Hawaii at the end of May after 29 years of service.

Cannoles joined the bank in 1986 as a management trainee and has held a number of management positions throughout the organization including stints in Honolulu, Kauai, Maui, and Hawaii Island, as well as in Tonga and the Solomon Islands when the bank had extensive operations in the South Pacific.

Succeeding Cannoles will be vice president James “Hobbs” Lowson, who will become the new West Pacific region manager. In his 18 years with Bank of Hawaii, Lowson has developed extensive management experience in island communities including Pohnpei, Kosrae, Palau, American Samoa, and most recently on Saipan, where he is currently island manager. Lowson will relocate to Guam.

Rose Sumor, assistant vice president and service manager on Saipan, will become island manager. Sumor has 33 years of experience with Bank of Hawaii with widespread expertise in branch operations.

Cannoles said, “It’s been a privilege to lead and mentor such a hardworking and highly talented group of employees and managers in the West Pacific. The time has come to allow them to have every opportunity to continue to grow their careers. They are ready and I have every confidence this team will continue the outstanding Bank of Hawaii tradition of taking exceptional care of our customers.”

“While I do look forward to spending more time with my family, along with golf, community activities and traveling, I’m not going anywhere right away. I intend to take the next three-plus months working with the team to help ensure the smoothest transition possible for our employees and customers,” he added.

Kevin Sakamoto, executive vice president and branch division manager notes: “Ron has been a tremendous asset to our team, and we are grateful for the years of leadership and commitment he provided to the bank. I’m also appreciative, during this time of transition, of his help in the coming months. Hobbs and Rose both bring a wealth of experience to their new roles and I look forward to their future contributions.” (BoH)
