Shirley’s grabs lead from MPU

Shirley’s Football Club seized the lead in the women’s division of M-League after demolishing MP United 8-0, last Saturday the Oleai Sports Complex Field.

Shirley’s kept its perfect record in three games to take the top spot in seven-team league from MP United, which fell to a 2-1-1 win-draw-loss record.

The new division leader leaned on its strong start to put the game away right after the first 40 minutes of play. Shirley’s scored five goals in the first half with two of them coming from Alexa Vergara. She drew first blood, scoring in the first minute and also hit Shirley’s last goal in the second half with her shot in the 25th. Vergara went on to earn a hat-trick as she notched her third goal in the 48th minute.

Five other players contributed in the rout against the hapless MP United crew.

Negahr Rastguiy lit up the board anew for Shirley’s just five minutes after Vergara recorded the game’s first goal, while the squad’s next two came in a span of only one minute with Kiana Atalig hitting her target in the ninth and Jeraldine Castillo duplicating the feat in the 20th.

Castillo got her second goal in the final half, converting an attempt in the 72nd minute, while Diana Maniacop completed Shirley’s domination with her goal in the 78th.

With another shutout win, Shirley’s has yet to allow a single goal in three games, while collecting 16. MP United has earned eight goals so far and gave up 14.

Tan Holdings FC 5, Independents FC 0

The second game of the night also ended in a rout with Tan Holdings FC blanking Independents FC

Chloe Salvosa towed Tan Holdings to the easy win with her pair of goals, which came in back-to-back fashion early in the second half. Jennifer Perena, Mary Kay Alferos, and Renita Fleming were the other scorers for Tan Holdings.

Perena opened up Tan Holdings’ offense with her goal in the fifth minute, while Alferos made it a 2-0 lead with her shot in the 22nd. Fleming drilled her lone goal in the second half after Salvosa got a break.

Tan Holdings improved its record to 2-2-0 for solo second place in the team standings and has earned 14 goals so far, while allowing only five. Independents FC dropped to a 1-0-3 card to remain at the bottom half of the team standings.

Kanoa FC 4, Matansa FC 1

In the last game for Week 4 of the women’s league, Kanoa topped Matansa.

Kanoa bagged its first win after getting a draw in its first game and losing its second, while Matansa absorbed its second loss after three matches.

Lalaine Pagarao led Kanoa’s first victory of the season, as she scored twin goals against Matansa. She posted her first goal in the 37th minute to hand Kanoa a 2-0 advantage. Jenny Lee recorded Kanoa’s first goal five minutes earlier before Pagarao made it to the board.

Matansa brought the deficit down to one and then stayed in contention after Bernadette Horey scored one minute before the first half wrapped up. However, that was the only time Matansa connected on its several attempts, while Pagarao gained her second goal in the 68th and Maribell Aldan closed out for Kanoa in the remaining minute of the match.
