Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos and press secretary Angel Demapan, along with some Marianas Visitors Authority board members, left for Tokyo, Japan on Wednesday to attend the annual Japan Association of Travel Agents World Trade Fair 2011.

JATA is Japan’s national organization of travel agents and suppliers promoting the travel and tourism industry. Its annual world trade fair, Japan’s largest annual travel show, attracts over 100,000 travel trade representatives, media representatives and potential visitors.

Inos and the rest of the CNMI officials are also in Japan for the mid-year Japan-Marianas Tourism Club, or JMTC.
“As you know, the lieutenant governor has been an integral part of the success of JMTC with respect to the government’s participation,” Inos’ legal counsel, Teresa Kim, said yesterday.

JMTC meetings are also held on Saipan, but this particular meeting is being held in Tokyo. Kim said they always invite Inos “and appreciate his presence and participation in these working meetings.”

“During these times of financial hardship in the CNMI, it is important not only to show support for our sole economic industry, but to meet with our partners and understand their concerns and assist to revive our tourism industry,” Kim added.

The CNMI’s main travel market is Japan.

She also said that MVA will conduct its Marianas Workshop this afternoon to “update travel agents about the Northern Marianas destination.

“The Marianas Workshop is expected to attract over 110 travel agents and media and will be held at Tokyo Bay Ariake Washington Hotel,” Kim said.

The CNMI officials are expected to be back during the weekend.
