The government has proclaimed March as Development Disabilities Awareness Month.

Gov. Eloy S. Inos and Lt. Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres signed the proclamation Monday in front of attendees that included members of the CNMI Tri-Agency consisting of the Northern Marianas Protection & Advocacy Systems, Inc., the Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities, the University of Center of Excellence on Development Disabilities of the Northern Marianas College, and the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.

One of the highlights of the proclamation was the distribution of the maiden issue of the Disability Watch quarterly newsletter. The maiden issue outlines the profiles of the organizations that are part of the CNMI Tri-Agency.

As a tool, the newsletter details ongoing efforts for disability awareness in the Commonwealth. It also gives updates on ongoing programs and advocacy works for the islands’ disabled.

Both Inos and Torres expressed support for the newsletter and its goals.

Torres also said the government will look into additional funding for these efforts.
