Marianas March Against Cancer Team Faiye got a jumpstart on this year’s fundraising by joining the Marianas Visitors Authority’s Beautify My Marianas program on Feb. 7-8, 2015.

Twenty-one members of the team put in extra effort by cleaning beyond their assigned area. On Feb. 7 they cleaned from Hotel Street in Garapan to Kristo Rai Church.

“As we reached the fishing base area we came upon a lot of trash,” said Keiko Shiprit in the group’s post-action report. “Although we weren’t assigned to clean that area we decided to clean it as it is the ground used for Tuesday and Thursday market. We raked and collected a lot of trash from this area.”

On Feb. 8, 2015, 19 members of the group also cleaned from Oleai Beach to Sugar Dock.

“We thank MVA for this opportunity, and we are eager to do our next island clean up,” said Shiprit.

The “Beautify My Marianas” program offers $100 for each 1-mile cleanup in assigned areas. For more information or an application for “Beautify My Marianas” visit the MVA homepage at www.mymarianas.com. (MVA)
