NMC adopts $8.4 million budget request
The Northern Marianas College adopted a budget appropriations request to the tune of $8.4 million, ahead of Friday’s deadline before the close of business.
The $8.4 million for appropriations includes funding primarily for personnel, according to chief financial officer Tracy Guerrero, who presented the budget to the board on Thursday.
According to her, $6.8 million is for current and vacant full-time equivalent positions, as well as federally funded positions the college anticipates will need funding as grants expire.
They also requested five FTEs to be reinstated for funding in the budget, she indicated.
Adjunct and overload costs will be added in for the first time this year. This cost averages, more or less, around $800,000 a year, Guerrero said in an interview.
Previously, the college had paid for this with student tuition and fees.
A line item added last year and sought again is for $686,000 in salary adjustments for all staff and faculty, as well $200,000 for faculty ranking adjustments.
Other requests cover utilities and the Office of Public Auditor’s required 1 percent.
