March 8 was also proclaimed “International Women’s Day,” following the United Nations’ lead to declare a day in March for “women’s rights and international peace.”

According to the proclamation, International Women’s Day is “a chance to pay tribute to ordinary women throughout the world and reflect on the progress and achievements made to advance women’s equality, celebrate the gains made by women in our society and reflect on the challenges and barriers which women continue to face.”

Attendees of the Friday proclamation signing included the CNMI Women’s Association.

The CWA was also recognized as a “beacon of strength on behalf of all women in the Northern Mariana Islands.”

Gov. Eloy S. Inos, who led the signing of the proclamation on Friday, requested lawmakers, community members, and various groups to support programs, ceremonies, and activities related to “Women’s Month.”

As part of the celebrations, the CWA has lined up a series of events to “reflect on the extraordinary accomplishments of women and honor their role in shaping the course of nation’s history.”
