HHS awards $1M to Guam DPHSS
HAGÅTÑA, Guam—The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded Guam’s Department of Health and Human Services a $1 million grant.
Guam DPHSS was awarded the grant to fund the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program. The program will support programs that help families raise their children from birth to 5 years to become physically, socially and emotionally healthy and ready to learn. The funds awarded will help develop home visiting programs to improve child health and prevent child abuse and neglect. The program will also help to encourage positive parenting and promote child development that will prepare children for school.
“This grant will provide DPHSS with funds to help improve child health and encourage positive parenting on Guam,” said Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo. “I supported legislation that extended funding for this program, which has been important to promoting the health and wellbeing of children on Guam. I look forward to this grant helping to improve family life and get our kids ready for school, in addition to improving child safety.”
