Palau college takes part in farmers’ group showcase
The Cooperative Research & Extension Department of the Palau Community College participated in a showcase for the Palau-Taiwan Farmers’ Association on Feb. 10, 2015. CRE set up booths that featured its current agriculture, food technology, and aquaculture projects. Dr. Robert V. Bishop of the United Nations Food & Agriculture Organization and representatives from the Belau National Museum also participated in the event.

Information showcased by CRE included recipes that used local produce as ingredients in nutritious meals, steps to starting small-scale farm projects especially in urban home settings, and posters explaining the importance of aquaculture. A raffle drawing in the afternoon allowed members of the community to win breadfruit plants that were grown at the CRE facility in Ngeremlengui.
The Palau-Taiwan Farmers’ Association Showcase promoted local products via methods applicable in Palau. By promoting local products, PTFA aims to increase dependency and use of local-grown produce in support of local self-reliance. CRE is a land grant system that seeks to collaborate with partners and clients in order to generate, develop, and disseminate practical and sustainable technologies and knowledge in agriculture, aquaculture, environment, food, and human sciences that are beneficial to the people of Palau.
CRE implements the Agriculture Experiment Station, Cooperative Extension Service, and Residential Instruction of the College of Micronesia Land Grant Programs in Palau. (PCC)
