Five candidates were later certified winners.

NMC has over a thousand enrollees this semester of which only 213 individuals participated in the poll, which is about 20 percent of the institution’s student population.

Saipan Tribune learned that the winners of the elections were actually the same ones that vied for the posts.

NMC certified Lawrence Camacho as the new president of the student council, while Keolester Buenpacifico emerged as the new vice president. Another unopposed candidate, Lauren Jardinero, was proclaimed the organization’s new secretary while no one was named for the treasurer position.

This school year, the election seeks three seats for student senators of which only two slots were filled and certified. Eldred Sanchez and write-in candidate Antonette Castro won the race.

The two-day election was held on Sept. 26 and 27. The winners will be sworn into office today.

Saipan Tribune learned that there were a total of 59 nominations received for this year’s election for all positions, of which 14 submitted applications based on their nominations and were assessed by the organization. Only five met the eligibility requirements for the election.

Beginning this school year, a higher GPA criterion for all elected student leaders was implemented-from the previous cumulative GPA requirement of 2.5 to 3.2 cumulative GPA. Once elected, the student leader should maintain a 3.0 GPA. Failure to maintain the required GPA will be cause for the leader’s removal from office. Each student leader has a two-semester term of leadership.
