Feb. is National Children’s Dental Health Month
Free oral screening tomorrow at Canary walkathon
To promote the importance of developing good oral habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits for children, the Division of Public Health’s dental clinic will be giving out oral health incentives for every child ages 1 to 14 years old that visits the clinic this February.
The division is celebrating the month of February as National Children’s Dental Health Month. The theme this year is “Brush 2 Minutes, 2 Times a Day!”
DPH will also be doing free oral health screening between 10am to 11am tomorrow, Saturday, at the San Vicente Elementary School’s Canary Walkathon.
Through funds made available by the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Oral Health Program provides preventative as well as curative dental services at the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.’s dental clinic.
“The clinic provides restorative services including fillings, pulpotomies, children’s stainless steel crowns, and adult root canals. The dental clinic is also offering general anesthesia for children who are too young or too frightened to have treatment done while awake,” DPH director Margaret Aldan said.
The dental clinic will also provide preventative services of all types including cleanings, sealants, and fluoride application for both children and adults and also offer emergency services for patients in pain and extractions for both adult and primary teeth.
“Patients simply need to call the dental clinic in order to make an appointment for themselves and their children. They may also stop by the clinic to make an appointment,” Aldan said.
They are located at CHC-DPH, next to the Immunization Clinic.
Aldan said they accept Medicaid and self pay patients and through the CHCC sliding free program, the clinic offers dental coverage to all income eligible uninsured or under-insured patient based on annual household income.
The dental clinic is open from 7:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. For more information call DPH dental clinic at 236-8369.
