Co-op hopes to have first general membership meeting this month
The Farmer’s Cooperative is still working to get together for its first general membership meeting since it opened the Garapan Public Market in August.
According to co-op secretary Isidoro Cabrera yesterday, once their president Maria “Frica” Pangelinan sets down an agenda they will set a date and proceed with the meeting.
“Hopefully this month,” Cabrera said when asked for the date of the meeting. They do not want to wait until March, he said.
Earlier, an election of new board members was reported to be on the agenda for their first meeting, according to co-op officials. It was reported that only Cabrera, treasurer Ignacio Concepcion, and Pangelinan were active in the market.
It was also reported by co-op officials and Pangelinan herself that she may step down as president. She would stay on as consultant, according to Cabrera earlier.
“I can still help and advise. My heart is in this. We just need cooperation,” Pangelinan had said.
In related news, Sabalu Market, seen as the public market’s competitor, has lost their board president, Calistro Reyes, after he stepped down recently.
To this, Cabrera said yesterday that they would “just wait and see” how things would go with the Sabalu Market. He said it’s hard to predict if their new board can work with the co-op but he indicated he was open to it.
He said yesterday that he plans to meet with Sabalu’s vice president Manuel Borja today.
