Public School System counselors and a crowd of students attended the proclamation signing by acting chair Marylou S. Ada.
The proclamation recognized counselors for their active commitment in helping students explore their abilities, strengths, interests and talents, among other things.
According to Education Commissioner Dr. Rita M. Sablan, they will be naming the Counselor of the Year in February.
She spoke of the growth they’ve made in their counseling program, with now only four PSS schools lacking counselors. She said they hope to recruit more counselors from the Northern Marianas College.
Starting in February, the PSS website will have a portal featuring highlights of their school counselors, showing “the things they do,” Sablan said.
The American School Counselor Association has sponsored National Counseling Week “Spice Up Your Counseling Program” from Feb. 2 to 6.
