Former S. Korean president on Saipan
Former South Korean president Myun Bak Lee is on Saipan and is staying at the Lao Lao Bay Golf and Resort.
Saipan Tribune learned through multiple sources that Lee is on a personal vacation with his family. Lee arrived on Sunday and will be staying on the island for 10 days, sources said.
Lao Lao Bay Golf and Resort declined to comment or confirm Lee’s presence.
Sources said that Lee declined any contact with the local media and denied several interview requests. CNMI government offices, including the Office of the Governor and Department of Public Safety, have also declined to comment or release any information on Lee’s visit.
According to sources, the CNMI government was informed about the impending arrival of Lee and his family by the Korean Consulate in Guam.
Saipan Tribune first learned of Lee’s visit through social media, as one employee at Star Sands Plaza claimed on Twitter that the former South Korean president had paid at the employee’s cashier on Monday night.
Marianas Visitors Authority managing director Perry Tenorio said he regretfully did not have the authority to answer, when asked to confirm or deny the former president’s stay on Saipan.
