1st batch of students may receive SHEFA checks early
Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance has already submitted to the Department of Finance its check request for the first batch of students who will receive financial aid under the program.
Students who were approved and have submitted all documents required by SHEFA might see an early distribution of checks this semester.
According to SHEFA administrator Merissa S. Rasa, the first check request was submitted to Finance on Monday, adding that SHEFA board chair Josephine Sablan was present at the time the first check request was submitted.
Rasa also reported that out of the 1,038 valid applicants as of Thursday, 130 applicants were approved and have turned in all supporting documents while 16 were denied due to the lack of requirements.
Rasa noted that of the 1,038 applicants, 651 are on-island and 387 are off island students.
“As of today [Jan. 15] we still have 892 incomplete applications. Out of the 1,038 valid applications, 33 of them are from the Northern Marianas Trade Institute and only two have submitted all documents,” Rasa said.
In related news, Rasa noted that SHEFA’s draft annual report will be out by Jan. 31. She told board members that she will be giving them the report on Jan. 23 through email for input.
SHEFA’s website will also improved by having a new tab section to include job vacancy announcements that include JVAs from the Office of Personnel Management, Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., Workforce Investment Agency, Public School System, Northern Marianas College, Saipan Chamber of Commerce and other government agencies.
