Apatang asks SHEFA board to relocate to Ladera Center
Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang has invited the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance to relocate to the Ladera Center where the Mayor’s Office is situated.
During the SHEFA board’s meeting on Thursday, Apatang said he was informed by the Northern Marianas Housing Corp. that the area where the SHEFA office is currently located will be sold and that SHEFA should relocate.
SHEFA board members told Apatang that they were not informed of the situation.
SHEFA board chair Josephine Sablan said that it seems like a good idea but they’ll meet first and talk about it.
Apatang said it would be better to relocate now so there would not be any last minute problems.
He also said they could share the cost of the office and that working closer together would help both offices in the future.
“Actually SHEFA is under the Mayor’s Office and I just wanted to meet the board so I came to the meeting and I want to see what problems does SHEFA need assistance on. This is one of the problems because we know this area is being planned to be sold and this building is very small for SHEFA,” Apatang said after the board meeting.
“We’re trying to accommodate them so they can be more accessible to the public too and the first option is to check the price and see what the office pays so we can relocate them. The area now where they are at is owned by NMHC and we know they will sell it,” he added.
Sablan noted that they do get help from the Mayor’s Office on several things that they need done.
