265 turn out for Lions Club’s health fair
A total of 265 people availed of the Lions Clubs International, District 204, Region 2 health fair on Sunday at the Joeten Dai Dai Social Hall of the Mt. Carmel Cathedral in Chalan Kanao.
The health fair started at 8am and ended at 12pm.
Lions Clubs region chair Ladyvir Canape said the turnout was good. “We were able to service 200-plus people and gave away about 300 reading glasses for free,” she said.
The Guam Lions Club donated the reading glasses to the Lion’s Club Region 2.
Those that participated in the health fair got to do blood pressure testing, sugar/glucose testing, vision screening, and eye pressure test. There was also diabetes awareness campaign, cancer awareness and general health awareness.
Canape said they are planning to have one health fair on Tinian as well by March or April.
“Even last year we were planning two for a year but it is hard on funding, so maybe we will stick to only once a year,” Canape said.
“We are planning to have another golf tournament by May and if it is successful we will have another health fair by the end of the year and do a feeding program and give food to the man’amko and other groups,” she added.
Volunteers at the health fair included Commonwealth Health Center nurses Ernie Molina, Marie Meister, Eden R. Gonzales, Margarita Valle, and Hardt Eye Clinic, Guam Marianas Lions Club, and Commonwealth Cancer Association’s program manager Juan Babauta and Patricia Kaipat of CCA.
Sponsors of the fair included Brabu Pharmacy and Wellness Center, PHI Pharmacy, TSL Foundation, Lion member Joe Dingo of Graphics, member Nelida Atalig of Don Pedro Restaurant, Saipan Unity Lions Club, Mario Mayuga, member Eli Arago, member Annamae Adaza, Canape, member Jhun Canape and family, member Tess Talens, and Saipan Ice and Water Co.
