WASHINGTON, D.C.– Madeleine Z. Bordallo joined her colleagues in the Hall of the House yesterday to take the oath of office at the start of the 114th Congress. The 114th Congress is Bordallo’s seventh term as the Guam delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives, a position she has held since January of 2003. She also reintroduced H.R. 44, the Guam World War II Loyalty Recognition Act.

Bordallo also hosted a luncheon and swearing-in ceremony for new officers of the Guam Society of America, the oldest community organization of families from Guam in the United States. The GSA is comprised of residents from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, including areas of Northern Virginia and Maryland.

“I am honored by the trust the people of Guam continue to place in me to represent them in the U.S. Congress,” said Bordallo. “I have worked hard over the past several terms to address issues important to Guam and our community, and I am looking forward to building on the progress that we have made on many of these issues during the 114th Congress—especially focusing on issues that will create jobs, such as continuing progress on the military buildup, extending visa-free travel for Chinese visitors to come to Guam, and addressing Compact impact. I will also work to improve services to veterans and seniors, enhance educational opportunities for our children and providing recognition to Guam’s greatest generation who endured the enemy occupation during World War II. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the 114th Congress to ensure that we continue to work for the people of Guam and raise the issues important to our community in Congress.”

“I also congratulate the new officers of the Guam Society of America: president Peter Camit, vice president Charlotte Harris, treasurer Aylene Mafnas, and secretary Sara Santiago. I commend the outgoing officers for their hard work and dedication to the GSA during the past year. The GSA provides an important outlet for families from Guam residing in the DC area to come together as a community. I look forward to continue working with them to promote our island’s culture and traditions in Washington.” (Office of the Delegate)
