Zoning to take on proposed crematorium and zip lines again

The Saipan Zoning Office board will once again review two proposed projects: a crematorium in Chalan Kanoa and a zip line in Marpi, both of which have been scheduled for review tomorrow, Jan. 8, at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.

Saipan Adventure Tours, LLC co-owned by Ron Hodges and Jason Shankweiler, is proposing to build a zip line in Marpi.

On July 10, the Zoning board expressed support for the project but asked the company to withdraw its application and amend it to conform with some zoning requirements.

One requirement from Zoning is the provision of parking areas and a public restroom.

The other application up for review is a proposed application for a funeral home with crematory services by Carmen Safeway Enterprises Inc. dba Borja Funeral Home, to be located in Chalan Kanoa.

At their most recent meeting in December, Zoning pushed back the application, noting that there were more materials for review, particularly whether it is safe or not and after finding out that not all residents and businesses within 300 feet of the site were informed of the project.

Both will be discussed and are up for approval or disapproval Thursday.

For more information on the two proposed projects applications, call the Zoning Office at 234-9661.
