16-year-old male swept off Forbidden Island

The U.S. Coast Guard is coordinating the search for a 16-year-old young man swept off the reef near Forbidden Island, Saipan.

At noon today, six people were knocked down by a large wave while walking along a reef exposed by low tide south of Forbidden Island. Forbidden Island is located at the northeastern tip of Laolao Bay, Saipan.

Three adults and three children were walking on the exposed reef when one of the adults and the three children were swept off the reef into the bay.

Saipan Department of Public Safety, Boating Safety located the adult male and two of the children. They have been transported to Commonwealth Health Center, Saipan.

A 16-year-old male remains missing. DPS Boating Safety and a USN helicopter from HSC-25 continue to search for the young man. (USCG)
