Man allegedly beat up common-law wife for smelling perfume
A jealous man allegedly beat up his common-law wife for smelling perfume at a residence in Kagman II on Saturday before dawn.
Joseph Flores Kaipat, 26, was arrested for assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
At a hearing yesterday, Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $2,500 cash bail and set the preliminary hearing for Jan. 6 at 1:30pm.
Assistant public defender Matthew Meyer was appointed as counsel for Kaipat.
Detective Therese S. Kintoki stated in her report that a police officer was dispatched to a residence in Kagman II, where a domestic violence was reported on Saturday at 3:47am.
Kintoki said when the officer arrived at the house he met the alleged victim and her uncle. Kaipat was sleeping in the bedroom at that time.
Kintoki said according to the alleged victim, she and her family arrived home from visiting their relatives in Koblerville last Friday night.
The alleged victim noticed that Kaipat was acting jealous upon seeing her talking with one of her male relatives.
Later at 3am, she was awakened when she heard her five-year-old son crying and asking to use the restroom. She got up and helped her son to the restroom.
After helping her son, she went back to the room and tried to go back to sleep. Kaipat asked her where she came from and why she was using perfume.
The alleged victim explained that she just came back from helping her son use the restroom. Kaipat then allegedly pulled her hair and asked her if she was looking for someone.
She walked out to the living room and sat on the couch. Kaipat followed her in the living room and asked to give her cigarette.
When she told him she doesn’t have cigarette, Kaipat got angry and allegedly punched her on the left shoulder. She ran to the hallway and sat next to her aunt’s bedroom door.
Kaipat approached her, grabbed her on the shoulders and dragged her on the floor to the kitchen area. He only stopped the assault when his common-law wife’s uncle came out from his bedroom.
Police arrested Kaipat at 4:35am that same day.
