The Hustlers, the regular season titlists, visit the Titans in the Christmas day finale at the latter’s home bar in Garapan. They arranged a title showdown after dispatching separate opponents last week.
The Hustlers downed Wild Bill’s, 9-3, while the Titans outlasted Jonny’s Team SCS, 9-6, in a pair of race-to-9 semifinal matches.
The Route33 and Armatech-backed squad dominated Wild Bill’s early in the first set of the singles events. The Hustlers, after splitting the opening partner’s 8-Ball, won 4 of the 5 singles matches to gain complete control.
The pairs of Jerry Soriano and Senen Pangilinan and Robert Sanciangco, and Simon Kapileo defeated the Wild Bill’s tandem of Juancho Mendoza and Victor Formales and Rey Parangay, and Nong Detdon to move the Hustlers within two victories from wrapping up the contest, 7-2.
Soriano and Oscar Sablan’s wins over Mendoza and Detdon sandwiched Parangay’s conquering of Pangilinan, which was Wild Bill’s last victory.
The Titans, meanwhile, struck in the last singles 8-Ball events, winning four of the five matches to turn a 5-4 deficit to an 8-6 advantage.
Randy Sablan, Ray Matsunaga, Patrick Cepeda, and Jack Thornsaket delivered for the Titans after beating Team SCS’ Joey Paranada, Bryan Fabre, Jerry Tiu and Erwin Gomez, respectively.
