Kagman road paving now awaiting signatures
A contract to pave some parts of Kagman roads is now being routed for signatures before any notice to proceed could be issued to the contractors.
Department of Public Works Secretary Martin Sablan told Saipan Tribune yesterday that they are waiting for the signatures now since the contractors have already been chosen.
“We are waiting for the signatures and once it is signed we will proceed with the contract,” Sablan said.
He said four areas will be paved: Chopak drive, Katbun St., Pine Drive, and Mangga St.
Aside from various Kagman projects and Precinct 5 areas, Sablan said that upper San Vicente is one other area that DPW is working on for road improvement.
“We are also working on Oleai road in front of the school. That contract is also up for signature. We were able to get $100,000 to fix the road area in front of Oleai Elementary School,” Sablan said.
Rep. Lorenzo Deleon Guerrero (Ind-Saipan) said that Precinct 5 residents will also be seeing various infrastructure improvement projects.
Last Wednesday, Deleon Guerrero forwarded an email to Sablan to begin the procurement process for bus shelters, road bumps and a basketball court at the Kagman Community Center.
Deleon Guerrero said yesterday that Gov. Eloy Inos has already signed Saipan Local Law 18-22, appropriating up to $90,000 for Precinct 5 infrastructure improvement projects.
Deleon Guerrero also cited another appropriation bill signed by Inos that sets aside $34,000 for bus shelters and speed bumps in Precinct 5.
Deleon Guerrero said he is thinking of using the $90,000 to pave Pepega Drive, which connects to Pine Drive and Chopak Drive.
“Kagman has a lot of roads that need to be paved. The problem with this is that when Pine Drive was up for pavement, it did not include Pepega Drive so it would help out a lot because it would interconnect Pine Drive and Chopak Drive,” he said.
Another project that Deleon Guerrero seeks to complete is the basketball court at Kagman Community Center.
