Man who threatened girlfriend with machete pleads guilty
An ex-convict accused of beating up his girlfriend and holding a machete to her neck pleaded guilty in Superior Court last week.
Theodore Oronigo Pehnos Jr. pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon as part of a plea deal. He will be sentenced on March 17, 2015, at 9am.
Associate Judge Teresa K. Kim-Tenorio ordered the Adult Probation Office to prepare a presentence investigation report.
Assistant public defender Michael Sato, counsel for Pehnos, waived revocation proceedings for his client.
Sato said Pehnos admits to violating the terms of his probation in a previous criminal conviction.
After the hearing, Pehnos was remanded into the custody of the Department of Corrections.
According to the factual basis of the plea agreement, Pehnos threatened bodily injury to his girlfriend by holding a machete to her neck. He swung the machete, hitting a board just a few inches away from the girlfriend’s face.
Police detective Norman L. Skilling stated in his report that a police officer and a firefighter responded to a residence of Kagman after receiving a call about a domestic violence incident.
Skilling said preliminary investigation showed that the girlfriend and Pehnos had an altercation, he got angry, broke some items then choked her in the neck. Pehnos then allegedly slapped the victim in the face, pulled her hair, then held a machete to her neck. He then swung the machete at a lumber behind her. The suspect also allegedly broke things in the house.
The victim ran to a neighbor’s house, where she called the police.
Skilling said that during his interview, Pehnos admitted to hitting his girlfriend in the face and scaring her with a machete.
