Rogolifoi to conduct five-day umpires certification course
Saipan Baseball League coordinator Tony Rogolifoi will be holding a Level I umpiring certification course starting tonight at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room.
The five-day session starts at 5:30pm and Rogolifoi is calling on individuals interested in joining the umpiring ranks to attend the 10-hour course.
“I’m inviting everyone and other interested parties to join this important event. We need a lot of help in this area—umpiring—particularly for the local Little League program,” said Rogolifoi, who also encourages team managers and coaches to join the umpiring course.
In related news, the new SBL season is set to open on Jan. 12, with the defending champion Brewers opening up their title bid against the Fielders.
The North Starz, A’s, Jets, and Falcons are the other competing teams in the 2015 season. Games will be played every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 6:30pm at the Francisco M. “Tan Ko” Palacios baseball field.
Rogolifoi said the the league could still accept one or two more teams provided they will join at least one week before the opening of the season.
“If there are still interested teams out there they should call and inform me immediately. We could still accommodate one or two teams,” said Rogolifoi.
He added that interested teams must turn in a copy of their 25-man rosters and waiver forms, prepare their own uniforms, and pay the $1,000 entrance fee.
